Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain:
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

-Emily Dickinson
(Doesn't this poem remind us of just how very big the little things are?)

  1. I've always loved that poem. It's a wonderful reminder of how you change the world and infuse it with meaning, just by taking care to help someone else!

  2. Anita- I've been reading Agnes Grey, and there's a part about little birds in it, that it just hurts to read, so I really like the "fainting robin" line.
